In 1850 census, "Wilson" (whom we believe to be Nelson, a misprint) was enumerated in his father, John (DH) Bumpass' household in Person County, North Carolina with his stepmother, Nancy, and siblings Nancy, Rebecca, John, Susan (step sister), Elvira, Simeon, Martha, and nephew, John Chandler. Nelson was 20 years old , born in North Carolina and a Farm Hand. ----- In 1857, Nelson was in Maury County, Tennessee. He gave a deposition for his older brother, Augustine Bumpass in cabinet making shop. It was recorded in Chancery Court Records, 1 810-1860, Vol. I, Compiled by Garrett & Lightfoot, 1965. ----- In the 1860 census, Nelson William Bumpas was enumerated with his wife, Harriet and son William in Helena, St. Frances Township , Phillips County, Arkansas. He was 30 years old, born in North Carolina. His occupation is Mfg. or Mgr. (difficult to read) . His personal estate is worth $300. There was no real estate.
