    • taught school on leaving Bowdoin College, then was for the rest of his life in the Internal Revenue Depratment in Washington, where the family spent their winters.

       
      He was appointed by President Lincoln as an office of the Revenue Department. Lived in Washington, D.C. and Portsmouth, NH

       
      He and Clara had two sons and four daughters all of whom married except Sarah.
