• Notes

  Jon Gautsson was a lendermann of King Magnus IV in 1181 and participated in the struggle against King Sverre. Jon and his brother Munan are named as ship captains at the battle of Nordnes (near Bergen). In 1184, King Magnus was killed in battle and later Jon and some of the other chief men of the kingdom who had opposed Sverre appear to have reconciled with him as they managed to retain their properties and offices.
