early learned the Carpenters trade, which was his occupation for eighteen years - and subsequently for 25 years he was a lumber dealer in Boston and Cambridge, Mass. On account of failing health, he gave up business in 1878 and retired to Mattapoisett.
Lived in Quincy Illinois, at various periods, for seven years of his life.
