Started out with IBM as a typewriter repair-person, worked with Cecil Effinger (the composer) for a while building musical typewriters, then returned to IBM where he became a programmer.
Jon was big on Dog Sled racing in the late 1960's and early 1970's. Played the tuba and bass for many years, then later moved to a baritone horn.
Attended Jordan School of Music in Indianapolis.
Left IBM in 1992 to become a manager of Software Testing.
| Jon Edward Erikson | Nov. 7, 1941 — Sept. 14, 2005 Jon Edward Erikson, of Longmont, formerly of Boulder, died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2005, in Denver, of complications from cancer surgery. He was 63. He was born Nov. 7, 1941, in Indianapolis to Oscar Erikson and Dorothy Ferguson Erikson. He married Susie Kimball on Aug. 24, 1963, in Indianapolis. Mr. Erikson worked for IBM for 23 years and Sybase for 10 years. He was a musician in the Denver metropolitan area for 35 years. He was a student at Gestalt Institute of the Rockies. He lived in Boulder from 1968 to 1985 and in Longmont since 1987. "This is a great loss to our family and our community," his family said. Survivors include his wife, of Longmont; a daughter, Michelle L. Dean, of Middletown, Md.; a son, David B. Erikson, of Longmont; a brother, Robert J. Erikson, of Indianapolis; and two granddaughters. A memorial servicewill be at 3 p.m. Monday at Crist Mortuary Chapel, 3395 Penrose Place, in Boulder. The Rev. Bill Youngblood will officiate.
