    • Steve Murdoch & Alexia Grosjean (1998) wrote in Scotland, Scandinavia & Northern Europe, 1580-1707, under "Jacob Anderson Dichington" <http://139.133.36.16:81/FMPro>
"James Anderson Dischingthun was born in the Holland district of Stronsand in the Orkney Islands. His name tells us that his father's first name was Andrew, and the only Andrew Dischingthun so far identified in Orkney was the Reverend Andrew Dischingthun, Minister of Towsay, who is mentioned in a document relating Patrick Stewart, Earl of Orkney on 5 March 1605. James moved to Bergen where he married Lutzia Jansdatter of Bergen sometime before or during 1634. James apparently witnessed a fellow Bergen-based Orcadian Thomas Cromartie's [SSNE 6857] sale of land in 1640. He also corresponded with Andrew Smyth, sherriff-depute of Shetland in August 1642. He had sewveral children namely Job, Marthe, Wenche, Ahl, Wilmiche, Anders, Anna, Jacob, Elen, Jon and Lisbeth. He died before 24/08/1668 though his wife lived on until the 1680's. In 1657 his land and wealth were valued at about 1800 rdl, and in 1686 his son Job lived in his house. Important events in Dischingthun family were recorded in the family bible. He is perhaps the same man as Jacob Anderson [SSNE 4538].................. See Bergen Statsarkiv, Sollied Archive, Dischingthun; N. Nicolaysen, Bergen Borgersbog 1550-1751 (Oslo, 1878), p. 56; National Archives of Scotland GD 190/3/234 no 9.
