In 1861, Dr. Thomas T. Dorwin founded the T.T. Dorwin and Co. drug store in Decatur, Indiana, later calling it the Dorwin Bros., then Dorwin and Holthouse.

Was president of the First National Bank of Decatur, Indiana from 1883 to 1893. He was a leading physician of Decatur and served on the board of the bank for years. The active management of the bank was in the hands of his son-in-law Charles A. Dugan for over 25 years.
Dr. Dorwin offered to furnish a banking room and vault for $290.00 per annum with a five year lease and 15 year option. The bank was to pay for the vault door and relocating the front door. The bank accepted the offer, and then bought a safe for $830.00
