    • - From History of Kennebunk, by Daniel Remich, 1911, pg. 359-360:"Nicholas Cole's grant, next below that of Edmund Littlefield, was conveyed by Ichabod Cousens and his wife Ruth (Cole) Cousens, to Storer, May 10, 1745, "containing one hundred acres of upland, made to our grandfather, Nicholas Cole, May 7, 1681, by the town of Wells."

      Littlefield Family Newsletter, Vol. 1, p. 9.

Nicholas Cole, about 52 in 1678. First mentioned 1652 in Wells. In 1658 he occupied his father's farm. In 1664 he was granted the ferry privilege at Cape Porpus (Mousam) River for seven years.

By 1666 he was partner with John Purington making oars and fishing, and built in Cape Porpus. In 1672 they removed to Harpswell where they obtained from the Indians, 26 November 1672, a deed covering that town. When the inhabitants fled in Philip's War,

Nicholas Cole brought many of them away. Constable 1658; appraiser 1662; jury 1668, 1686, 1688, 1689; He died 21 December 1688, administration granted to his son Nicholas.

His wife's name "Relief" in the Kittery record (printed) of his daughter Jane's marriage is a misreading of "relict". In 1668 his wife was Jane. (Genealogical Dictionary of Maine and New Hampshire , p. 156)
